Pho: Vietnamese Street Food

One of the most common Asian foods that is becoming much more popular in American is pho. It is often mispronounced, but the correct pronunciation is “fuh”. Pho is a popular street food in Vietnam. Pho consists of broth, linguine-shaped rice noodles, a few herbs, and meat, usually chicken or beef.  Simmering beef bones, flank steak, charred onion, and charred ginger and spices generally make the broth. Many spices can be added to create a more savory flavor as well. The broth takes several hours to make. Pho is typically served with lots of greens, herbs, and vegetables. Often times, green onion is added to the broth to garnish it. It is also served with hot and spicy sauces and pastes.pho1

Pho has been around for a very long time. It is sometimes even served as a breakfast dish. It is loved my many because of how familiar the dish and how fresh the ingredients are. There are not many ingredients to this dish, but the taste makes it seem like there are so many. On weekends like this one, where it just doesn’t seem to stop snowing, pho would be a perfect dish to warm up and fill up!
